Crystal Structure Models of Alloys

 

 

Alloys are one of mankind's greatest and most important acievements. From naturally occurring alloys such as eugenite and electrum, through bronze, discovered around 3300BC, to exotic modern alloys such as pseudo-palladium, they pervade almost every aspect of our lives in one way or another.

 

Crystal structure models of alloy structures tend to have a high density of bonds in their structures, which makes them challenging to construct. Consequently, they also feel markedly heavier than, for example, inorganic crystal structures or mineral structures of the same size, but they are amazing to hold and view. Their forms range from simple substitution of atoms in close-packed structures through to astonishingly rich, symmetrical, large long-range structures as seen in Bergman-type phases.
